The thing about having anxiety issues is that you never know what is going to push that button or when it is going to happen. You can’t plan for it. All you can do is hope you’re able to deal with it as happens. Recently one of my friends told me I had a very weird habit when I was feeling anxious about things. She said I hum Disney songs while I rub my ear. I never realized I was doing this. So I tried to start paying attention to what my outer body was doing when my mind was “going crazy”…sure enough, I was humming songs from my childhood while I was rubbing my ear with my finger and thumb. How I had never realized I did this I do not know. What I do know is that it seems to help calm me (or keep me calmer) than the times I found I was not doing this.

I always said time after time that OCD can take up so much of your energy and time. I ordered a pizza on the weekend, to find myself in a great big panic over a pizza sauce smear on the side of the box. I could not stop thinking “what if that was blood”. It took me 45 mins. to work up to actually taking a slice. It is amazing how our brain will make up a crazy story, and feed it to your emotions and make you feel terrible. A simple pizza can make an OCDer suffer. In the end, I did eat the pizza, but I did not enjoy it.

There is nothing worse than going to a bank machine and take out some money, to find blood smeared all over one of the twenty dollar bills. Why does this happen to someone with OCD all the time. This set off a major panic attack on my end. I quickly purchased something from a store so i could get rid of the bill.

This is one of the most asked questions on my site. There really is no one cure that will make everything go away. There are however, tools you can learn to use to help manage the symptoms. The first thing I tell people is that you have to accept the disorder and all the thoughts. Understanding and saying to yourself, “these are OCD thoughts again”. That this is ” normal thinking” for a person who suffers from OCD.

There are days where you just feel like giving up. Controlling your ocd seems to take a lot of energy and time and at the end of the day you are so tired, you want to crash. When my OCD flares up, I find myself trying to fight this battle and it seems like I will never win. There have been days where I just want to sit and watch TV and not have to face the world. This might be the depression part of the disorder.

When I tell people I have OCD, they think it’s the basic ” wash my hands” symptoms and there in nothing to worry about. I wanted to share one of my other symptoms I had with my OCD. I would not drive on the road that the hospital was located on. The fear is that someone sick might try to get into my car, or, Someone bleeding in the back of an ambulance might spray blood through the air and land 50 feet into my car. Sounds crazy I know. If you suffer from OCD and the intrusive thoughts that tend to think of, this is a very normal worry.

When trying to find the right OCD treatment centers, there are two major points you should be looking at. The first point I would say is, are they known for specializing in your type of OCD. For example, what king a fears, contamination, checking etc. Different facilities around the world are known for treating certain types of OCD. The second point, are they really dedicated to your recovery or are they just trying to run a business and make cash. I have seen lots of OCD so called “boot camps” and they are nothing more than wanting to push as many people through. I understand they have to make money, but your health and recovery should be number one.

I actually had time to watch the show “Obsessed” and have to say I feel for everyone on that show. This disorder can take up so much of your time and can be really tiring. The doctors on the show all use the exposure technique and as you can see it really works. Great show, I will be watching.

Is there any one time during the year where your OCD symptoms really act up. I notice my symptoms getting worse around the winter time. This might have something to do with the busy holiday season and our cold cold winters. Sitting around thinking of things to worry about is not a good idea. I try to stay busy during these tough times. Try to take up a hobby or a sport. They main key here is to keep active and your mind strong.
